Esports in Malaysia – From Hobby to the World Stage

If you're the type to stay up until the early hours just to catch Falcon Esports take on RSG PH in Mobile Legends, or a Dota 2 fan who never misses The International — you already know how massive the esports world is. In Malaysia, esports is no longer just a hobby for kids. It's a thriving industry, complete with professional athletes, training academies, and passionate supporters from Perlis all the way to Sabah.

We built this esports section from the ground up for local players — with betting markets that cover domestic leagues like the Malaysia Esports Championship (MEC) all the way to international stages such as The International, BLAST Premier, and PGL Major.

Types of Esports Bets at 123mkv

Not everyone realises that esports betting goes far beyond simply picking a winner. 123mkv offers a wide variety of markets for every match, catering to bettors of all experience levels.

Match Winner

Predict which team will win a given match. The most straightforward and most popular bet type across all esports titles on 123mkv.

Map/Round Handicap

A handicap is applied to the stronger team to level the playing field. Ideal when two teams are mismatched — offering more attractive odds than a straight-win bet.

Over/Under (Total Maps)

Predict whether a bo3 or bo5 series will finish with a total map count over or under a set value. Example: Under 2.5 means the series ends in 2 maps.

Live Betting (In-Play)

Place bets while the match is in progress. Odds shift in real time as the game unfolds — the most thrilling experience available at 123mkv.

MVP / Best Player

Predict which player will be crowned MVP or top performer of the match. Great odds for those who know their team rosters well.

Tournament Winner

Pick the team you think will win the entire tournament — from The International Dota 2 to MEC Malaysia. Odds are significantly higher for underdog picks.

Esports Betting Tips for Malaysian Players

Esports is a different beast from conventional sports. There are plenty of unique factors to consider before placing a bet at 123mkv — and these tips will help you get started on the right foot.

1

Stay up to date with each game's current meta

In Mobile Legends or Dota 2, a new patch can drastically shift the game's balance. Teams that adapt quickly to the latest meta tend to have the edge. Check patch notes and pre-match analysis before placing your bets on 123mkv.

2

Watch for lineup changes and player absences

In esports, the absence of a single star player can dramatically reduce a team's performance. Always check the latest roster before placing a bet — this information is often posted on the team's official social media channels hours before the match.

3

Analyse head-to-head team records

Some teams hold a psychological edge over specific opponents. Past head-to-head records can offer useful clues. 123mkv provides quick-access statistics to help you make more informed decisions.

4

Understand the match format (BO1, BO3, BO5)

Best-of-1 matches give weaker teams a better shot at an upset compared to BO3 or BO5 formats, where consistency matters more. Market types and odds on 123mkv vary based on these formats.

5

Don't overlook local Malaysian teams

Teams like Falcon Esports MY, Team HAQ, and squads from local esports academies are often undervalued in the odds. If you follow the local scene closely, there's better value to be found here than betting on big names alone.

6

Set a budget and never bet on impulse

Die-hard fans often bet with their heart rather than their head. Set a betting limit before you start and stick to it — even when your favourite team is playing. That kind of discipline is worth more than any analysis.

If an esports match is postponed or cancelled before it begins — or before enough time has elapsed for it to be validated — all related bets will be automatically voided and the full amount returned to your account. For matches that have already started and are then suspended, the rules depend on the specific circumstances. The 123mkv support team is available via live chat to clarify any situation promptly.

You can also track match progress through 123mkv's built-in live tracker to make sharper in-play betting decisions at the right moment.

Esports betting and traditional Sports Betting share the same core principle — predict the outcome to win. The key difference lies in what drives those outcomes: in esports, game patches, the current meta, hero or agent compositions, and the playing environment (LAN vs. online) all play a significant role. Esports tournaments also take place more frequently with more dynamic schedules. At 123mkv, we provide dedicated analysis and statistics to help bettors understand both domains.

Yes, the minimum age to register and use all services on 123mkv — including esports betting — is 18 years old. While many young players are highly skilled in esports, our betting platform strictly prohibits anyone under the legal age from participating. Rigorous age verification is carried out during the registration process to protect minors.

Responsible Gaming

At 123mkv, we believe esports betting should add to the excitement of watching your favourite matches — not become a burden or a problem. Malaysia's fast-growing esports community deserves to be supported by healthy, responsible betting practices.

Remember: betting should be about fun and supporting the team you love. Don't let it get in the way of your daily life, studies, or finances.
